High-five!

It seems Logan learned to high-five yesterday in about 5 minutes! We were playing on the floor and I was just messing around with him, showing him how to do it. I slapped his hand with mine a few times, each time saying "Logan, high-five". Then I just said the words and didn't do anything. To my surprise, he slapped hands with me and will do it just about everytime you tell him "high-five"!! It's so cute!

We've been working on clapping and waving for a little while now, but this he gets in record time, lol! :)

Swim class

We took Logan to his first swim class last night and he absolutely loved it! First of all, the facilities at the Friendship Center are great. Jon and I are considering a membership there if the boy continues to dig the pool, but after seeing that smile plastered across his face the whole time, it might not be a hard decision! From the first moment he waded in until the class was over, you could tell he was having a ball.

He had no fear of the water or being splashed and to our surprise, if I laid him down on his tummy in the water, he immediately started moving his arms and kicking his legs...no lie! It was hard to catch on the regular camera, but Jon was able to get it (and lots more great footage) on video. There was a giant frog in one of the pools that they had everybody walk around and get to know and there was a small slide going down his butt...he loved that too!

Next week, Jon gets to haul the boy around the pool though...my arms are sore! :D

First word?

Jon has declared that Logan's first word is officially "Mama". He's been making the sounds really well for a week or so, but it didn't seem as if he were using them in context (at least to me). Jon decided last night that in the last fews days, when he says "mama", he actually seems to be wanting one of us to do something, whether it's pick him up, get his nuk, or is sleepy and wants to whine. So there we have it...mama! :D

9 month check up

We had Logan's 9 month-old check up today and it went really well. He's 28 1/2 inches long and 23 lbs. The pedi was impressed that he's cruising the couch already and that he knows the basics of a sippy cup. He's already trying the foods she suggested and didn't even bat an eye when he got a heel stick to check for anemia (his iron levels are right on, by the way). Everything looked great and she said that he is the "perfect baby", lol! :D

California, here we come!

So Jon and I are heading to San Jose for the World Fanasty convention at the end of October. Neither of us have been there before, so we're really looking forward to it, plus he'll be able to do a lot of networking and attend seminars. I'm hoping we get time to see the Winchester Mystery House, but we're on a super-tight schedule, so who knows. My mom and his parents are both chipping in to watch Logan while we're gone, so we only took a few days to spare them as much as possible, lol!

Cruising!

So exactly 1 week after he began pulling himself up to standing, Logan has begun using the couch to cruise around the living room! He'll be 9 months old on Tuesday and is apparently determined to get mobile asap.

He also says something that resembles "Maaaaa", but he mostly uses it when he's frustrated or sleepy, so who knows if it's the real thing! Of course...those could be signs that it is!

Whew!

So that's the entirety of the MySpace blog. And it didn't take as long as I thought it would.

Wow, all kinds of stuff...

Wow, all kinds of stuff...

So not only is Logan crawling all over the place, he's begun pulling himself up as well. He'll use anything - the couch, your leg, a chair...he's determined to stand on his own! He's starting to get the hang of clapping too. He won't do it on his own yet, but he pays VERY close attention when someone else does it, and if his hands are on yours, he'll push them together to make you clap! Lots of babbling, but no real words yet. He'll be starting a swimming class on June 24th, which we're pretty excited about - he seems to love bath time so much this looks like a slam dunk, but we'll see and keep you all updated!

In more Jon news, his book deal got renegotiated by his agent (oh yeah, did I mention he landed an agent? ), so now it's a guaranteed 3 book deal with an option for a 4th. It's soooo exciting, and now he has a lot of work to do in order to get Book 1 published next summer, as planned.

Jon's MAJOR news!

Jon's MAJOR news!

Jon, who has 5 short stories in print, but who's ultimate dream was to publish his novels, just got offered his first book deal! This is just so amazing and wonderful. He's worked really hard for it and I knew all that would pay off for him. He has a few things to tweak (really not many for a full-length novel, if you ask me), but if everything goes as the publisher hopes, it should hit bookshelves next summer! Did I say this was amazing, LOL? As more info becomes available, I will definitely post the details!

He crawled!

Thursday, May 21, 2009

He crawled!

Logan crawled for real in front of Jon and me this morning! He's been sort of army crawling and pulling himself around for awhile now, plus he's been up on his hands and knees for a couple of weeks, but hadn't quite gotten everything together yet...until today! I was in the kitchen and Jon called me into the living room, but I missed him crawling over to Jon to get to a stuffed monkey. I was kinda bummed until I was putting my sneakers on a little later and he did it again! Now maybe he can start sleeping again at night, lol! Lil guy was practicing crawling in his sleep!

He tried waffles for the first time last night...they were a hit!

Real food!

Real food!

Logan's been getting a taste of real food lately. So far, he's had cut up bananas, cheese, bread, mashed potatos, and pasta! He also loooooves chocolate milkshakes...you can tell who his parents are! It's so funny...he went from having no real interest just a couple of weeks ago, to wanting to try everything! We also tried drinkable yogurt yesterday, which was a big hit as well!Yesterday was also his first trip in his big boy car seat! He took to it pretty well. It seems so big for him now, but so did his baby car seat not long ago. Kid's growing like a weed!

P.S. Go Loretta! We're all thinking about you, Matt, and Cadence! Can't wait to meet her!

He sat up by himself!

Saturday, May 09, 2009

He sat up by himself!

I witnessed a first today! Logan was scooting across the living room floor this morning when he stopped, rolled to the side a bit, propped himself on his hand, and casually sat up all by himself! I was so stunned at first, I couldn't believe it! His attempts at crawling are getting better and better. He now sort of propels himself along using mostly his arms, and his legs to push off from. Jon calls it "the dolphin". He's really getting there!

He also took a few real steps today, between me and Mom, like he wanted to maybe see what all this walking business was about. He's just growing up so fast, lol!

Random stuff

Our granite counter is in, and boy does it look awesome! It really ties the whole kitchen together. We're going to be looking at getting tumbled tile to replace the backsplash, maybe this week sometime. We can finally cross some things off our "home improvement ideas" list!

Logan is doing really well. Nothing solid to report yet...no teeth, but the drool and the gnawing...whew! You'd think one was coming in any minute the way he's going, but since he's been like this for a couple of months now, we're used to it. At least he's not a cranky teether (so far). I'm sure we may have different opinions on this when he actually cuts a tooth!

He's tried a few small pieces of banana and a couple of Gerber puffs (they dissolve in the mouth), but I'm not sure he's ready for more solid stuff yet. It seems to make him gag a bit. It's probably just something he needs to get used to, so we'll try introducing other things. Maybe I'll try whole wheat bread this week. Other than that, he sure loves his oatmeal and whatever is mixed in it. He gets a fruit mix in the morning (applesauce appears to be his fave) and a veggie mix in the afternoon (I hear carrots are a hit!). He can drink water pretty well out of his sippy cup too.

He's still working on crawling. The elements are there, and he does motor around, and he seems sooo close! But his favorite thing is standing. He will stand as long as you can hold him up...on the floor, your lap, the couch...whatever's handy! He's definitely getting more mobile!

Almost crawling!

Sunday, April 05, 2009

Almost crawling!

Logan is definitely hovering around making the whole crawling thing come together. He's been creeping for awhile and can get around in a circle, but last night he started getting his pudgy little knees underneath him. Once it gels, there will be no stopping him! He's also sitting up super well for a good length of time, although he did fall backwards and bump his head today, poor guy.

And developing a sense of humor...quirky as it is. It's so funny to see what makes him laugh! He giggles and smiles all the time and loves to be sung to! Plus, he's getting to be a little daredevil. I think Jon and I will be busy for the next 18 years or so...LOL!!

B&B

Sunday, March 29, 2009

B&B

Oh, the B&B we stayed at Friday night was so great! It was on a horse farm in Hummelstown (which is maybe 15 minutes from us) and right near Hershey. When we got there, we saw how big the place was! Between the actual house and barn/horse paddocks, it was humongous. The innkeeper gave us a tour of the house. When we first walked in...a sheet to jot down when we'd like breakfast...not a "breakfast at 8:00 for everyone" kinda deal. We picked 9:30! On the table she had at least 4 baked treats and a stand with 2 or 3 different kinds of cookies there. The home was beautiful with 3 or 4 big stone fireplaces that we could see...there may have been more, who knows?

She showed us to our room, which was amazing! It was actually bigger than our bedroom at home, with gorgeous decorations and a jacuzzi, plus our own private bathroom! The bed was one of those gigantic king ones that was at least 3 feet off the floor, I swear.

After we dropped off our bag, we went into Hershey for dinner. I had picked an Italian place that specifically had risotto on the menu. It's called Fenucci's and we WILL be eating there again. ZOMG, the food was out-of-this-world. I had a risotto with chicken and prosciutto in a garlic cream sauce. Yummmmm!! Jon played it safe with chicken parmesan, but I think he salivated a little when he saw someone else's plate with meatballs on it. They looked so good! Of course, he helped me finish the risotto and we enjoyed everything.

After dinner, we headed to the Hershey Outlets for some aimless wandering around. Jon gamely helped me pick out a new summer scent at Bath & Body Works, we picked up a couple of outfits and a toy for Logan at Carter's, and a Tinkerbell t-shirt for me at Disney. It was a good long walk and helped us work off dinner, only for Jon to have the idea of Friendly's for dessert, which of course, we did!

When we got back, it was time for some relaxin' in the jacuzzi and then we watched "Zack & Miri Make A Porno" with Seth Rogan & Elizabeth Banks...funny stuff! Oh, did I mention the dish of Hershey candy in our room?

We slept in until about 8:30, got showers and headed to breakfast. The food was really good (and all homemade), although Jon wasn't crazy about the banana nut muffins and neither of us was into the french toast with strawberries (he woulda preferred it with plain syrup), but we enjoyed what we could.

Before we left, we took a walk up to the barn to see the horses. They board them and there must have been at least 20 in the stalls, plus a mule and a couple of alpacas. Not to mention the tiny little barn cats!

When we got home, Logan was napping on Mom and they both looked pretty content. Mom said he was a really good boy and she had no trouble at all with him. So I guess we'll have to do this again sometime!

2 milestones in 1 day!

2 milestones in 1 day!

Yesterday was a big day for us! Jon called me at work to tell me that Logan creeped quite a distance in order to get a toy that was out of his reach. He's been sort of navigating in a circle for a little while, but in the last few days has started getting used to the idea of legs under him, instead of flung out behind him. Crawling should be soon!

Aaaaaand...we took our first bath in the "real" bathtub last night! He absolutely loved it and had a great time splashing and playing with toys. We took some video, but we're going to get some more tomorrow night, along with some pics to post. It was so cute!

6 month check-up!

6 month check-up!

We took Logan to his 6 month check-up today and the doctor says he is super healthy and growing like a weed! She said he must've doubled in size since the last time she saw him! He's nearly 20 lbs and is 26 inches long (although now I'm sorta questioning that measurement, because he was supposedly 26 inches long 2 months ago...I'll have to get out a tape measure myself!). And ready to move up to the stage 2 food! He got 3 shots today (booo), but took them like a champ.

New stove

New stove

Well, I guess we've put if off long enough...we have to get a new stove. It used to be just a cosmetic thing...it worked, but it was older looking and I really wanted one of those flat-tops. Once, a couple of months ago in the middle of the night, the buzzer started going off randomly. Weird enough in itself, but the big problem is that I couldn't get it to stop. It's one of those wind-up timers attached to the clock on the stove (neither of which we ever used). So here the buzzer is going off in the middle of the night, never having been used, attached to a clock that's never used. Jon finally managed to wrench it just right and it stops. For awhile. It did it again not long ago (in the middle of the night) and is again, stopped.

This morning at 5:30am, I realize the stupid thing is going off again and this time, Jon can't stop it, no matter what he tried. The next thing I know, he's taking a hammer to the glass over the timer/clock, trying to get at it that way. No go. So then, he pries the front of the stove off and snips the wire to the buzzer, just like a bomb squad guy. It was pretty funny to watch at 6 in the morning. At that point, we decide that it's not really just a cosmetic thing anymore and a new stove might be in order. It wasn't on our list of things to do in the near future, but I've been bugging for one almost since we moved in, so I can stop nagging the hubby about it now.

Hopefully we can get it bought and installed by the weekend, as Jon's aunt and uncle from Ohio are coming into town to see Logan, who, by the way, slept through the oven renovations this morning. Don't ask me how!

Bronchiolitis

Thursday, March 12, 2009

Bronchiolitis

So we ended up taking Logan to the doctor yesterday. Jon called me at work to tell me he started wheezing a bit, so I went across the hall to see what we should do and they had us bring him in. He has bronchiolitis (an inflammation of the bronchioles), which is a virus that you can get from being exposed to the flu or a cold, which (thanks to me) he was. He had a chest x-ray to make sure he didn't have pnuemonia as well (which was clear). He wasn't put on any medications (antibiotics won't help a virus and steriodal inhalers would just make him hyper with no real effect), so it's mostly just about keeping his nose clear so he can breathe. So far, he's still eating fine and is keeping his smile (most of the time). We hope he gets better soon!

First cold :(

First cold :(

Awww, now I feel even worse...I guess I gave Logan his first cold. I've been sick since last weekend, really bad since Wednesday. Of course, I've been washing my hands even more often than usual and haven't been giving him the kisses I usually do. I tried VERY hard to keep it away. And now I'm just starting to feel mostly better and Jon tells me yesterday while I'm at work that he thinks he hears a little chest congestion. Sure enough, the poor 'lil guy has a stuffy nose and cough. I guess I knew it would happen eventually, but I still feel awful guilty about it.

Sippy cup

Thursday, March 05, 2009

Sippy cup

We gave a sippy cup with a little bit of water in it a try last night. Logan took to it pretty well! He grabbed the handles like he knew what he was doing and got some of the water out. He just has to figure out how to tilt his head back in order to get the stuff from the bottom of the cup! 'Course, after a few sips, he proceeded to barf on Jon's shorts. We then ended the sippy cup experiment for the evening. At least he's got the idea!

Lots of stuff...

Lots of stuff...

Well, lessee...Logan turned 5 months old yesterday! He is busy practicing his mad skills at rolling over, sitting, and pulling to a stand! He laughs out loud all the time now and usually has a smile on his face. Hopefully this is a good omen of personality to come...

We thought he might be teething over the weekend. He seemed to have a lot of the symptoms, but we can't feel anything yet. We'll see...

Our 6th anniversary was Valentine's Day! Jon had roses delivered to the office and surprised me with a beautiful antiquey-looking crystal quartz necklace! We then went to Alfred's Victorian for dinner on Friday night, which is a fairly fancy place in Middletown. It's in an old Victorian house, which is absolutely gorgeous. The food is kinda pricey, but soooo yummy.

Then on Saturday, we went and bought a brand new car! The Jeep had been iffy for a couple of months now...it would sometimes not start at all, or maybe sputter at red lights. We had it repaired twice and didn't want to invest any more money into it and it was getting to the point where we didn't really trust it anymore. We got a 2008 Kia Sorrento and love it! It's a cool cross-over type vehicle, definately more SUV than station wagon or minivan, neither of which we would drive, lol! We got an amazing deal and are very happy with our decision.

Jumperoo

Thursday, February 12, 2009

Jumperoo

Now we got this thing about a month ago (give or take) and Logan's been messing around with it, mostly playing with the toys and looking at the lights on it and not so much jumping around. All of a sudden it clicked last night! It was sooooo cute! His little feet got going and he starting bouncing all over the place! He had a huge grin on his face and started giggling...it was just too adorable. Now we gotta bust out the video camera and catch it!

Wow, real food!

Wednesday, February 04, 2009

Wow, real food!

So we've been giving Logan cereal once or twice a day for the last week and a half. We've mixed in bananas, applesauce, and sweet potatoes so far, all with great results! He gobbles it all down, usually with a big grin on his face! He's even stolen the spoon from our hands to try and feed himself faster...'lil piglet!

Today we're going to try and feed some sweet taters to him right from the jar. I think he'll like them fine, because last night after his cereal, he seemed to want some more, so I gave him the rest of the jar. Down the hatch!

He's also learning new tricks like crazy. He rolls back and forth with no effort whatsoever now and has gotten the hang of laughing out loud, which is so cute! He loves to be in the sitting position and will try to sit up if he's reclining. Once he's sitting up, he then wants to stand up! What a crazy kid!

Food poisoning!

Thursday, January 29, 2009

Food poisoning!

Poor Jon. He woke up yesterday morning at 3am having to throw up, which he continued to do for hours afterwards. We're pretty sure it was Gilligan's that did it, because even Bob got nauseous (and Bob never gets sick). He could barely get out of bed yesterday, so I stayed home to take care of him and Logan. He's feeling much better today, just weak and achy. Although unhappy that he might have to put Gilligan's on the banned list, but even if he does, I don't think he can stay away from the hot wings for very long.

Doc appt update

Doc appt update

Logan's 4 month old check-up was this past Friday. The kid is a chunk, weighing in at 18 lbs, 4 oz (95th percentile)! He's 26 inches long (85th percentile), so at least he's growing pretty well length-wise too! She suggested we start him on cereal twice a day, which we did over the weekend and he loved it!

I knew he tolerated the rice well, as we gave it to him in his night-time bottles for a little while back in the day, so I went right for the oatmeal this time. It looks and smells like wallpaper paste, so I stirred in just a little bit of bananas for him. He really went to town with it, opening his mouth for more, giggling, "helping" me with the spoon, and at one point he took the spoon out of my hand and tried to feed himself! He made a little mess, but if he's getting the idea already...go for it, kiddo! I'm thinking of doing the cereal for a week, then trying some veggies, eventually throwing some fruits in there too. I think he'll take to them pretty well after what he did this weekend.

Poor 'lil guy got his 2nd round of shots too. You know they're good for him, but jeeze...you wish they'd come up with something better than jabbing little kids with needles, ya know? He seemed ok Friday night and Saturday, but I think he might have had a small delayed reaction yesterday. His injection sites were a little red and looked irritated, which they didn't on Saturday. He was exhausted, but wouldn't nap unless it was on me, and that was only after a good 1/2 hour of crying first. I gave him some Tylenol...hopefully it helped make him feel a bit better.

I have a bunch of pictures to post, so I gotta get to that pretty soon here. Keep a lookout!

4 months old!

4 months old!

Wow, it's crazy that Logan is 4 months old already. Time seems to be flying by so fast. We can hardly believe that teeny l'il guy we brought home from the hospital is the big chunk we have now! He's growing so fast and doing so much! We got him a jumperoo and he's been in that several times (pics to follow soon) and really seems to like it alot. It has the works...music, lights, and plenty of toys on it to keep him busy. Right now, he's a tad small for it (hard to believe, I know!), so we have been wedging a towel in the seat with him to help fill up the space. But he holds his head up great and once he figures out he can make the thing go, we're pretty sure he'll be non-stop with it!He has his 4 month check-up next Friday with the pediatrician, so I'll post a height-weight update then. Here comes the next round of shots...oh noes!!

Baby's First Christmas!

Baby’s First Christmas!

Logan's first Christmas was a lot of fun! He got lots of clothes for 6-9 months, which is awesome and some toys too...even a toy box to put everything in! While he didn't open anything himself (obviously, lol), he did seem to enjoy watching presents being opened. He got all excited, with wide eyes and legs kicking...so cute! One of my favorite presents this year was a DVD Jon made of all the stuff he's taped so far since Logan's birth. It was just so fun to watch him grow in such a short time. I love my hubby!!

So he finally turned himself over in front of someone yesterday! We were playing on a blanket on the floor and I had him on his tummy. He is able to prop himself up on his elbows now, so he gets a really good view of everything around him and can reach for his toys. I was sort of laying on my side behind him, making his toys move. All of a sudden, he gets up onto his side and seems to be rolling my way. I quickly moved out of his way and *poof* he was over on his back! Of course, he was all proud of himself! What a little stinker!

We got to see my nephew John this past weekend too, which was pretty great. We haven't seen him in about 4 years and he's 9 now, so he's grown a ton and getting really tall! We have some pics of him holding Logan, which turned out pretty cute...I'll post once I download them all.

We hope everyone had a really great holiday and please have a very happy and safe New Year!

Little squirt!

Tuesday, December 23, 2008

Little squirt!

So Logan's secret trick continues to be secret...I went to get him up yesterday morning and he was turned over on his back laughing and giggling to himself...too cute! Then I tried putting him down for a nap around 3pm, which of course turned out to be a 20 minute trademark Logan power nap, and when I got in his room, he was trying to flip himself over! I watched him do it a couple of times and thought to myself, "I'm getting the video camera and finally catching this!" and ran into the den. In the 30 seconds it took for me to run in there, grab the camera, turn it on, and run back in his room, the little squirt had already turned himself over and was laughing! OMG...what a booger! So tricksy!

Identity theft

Identity theft

So I can now count myself as one of the unlucky members of a crappy club to be in. I got a phone call last night from a credit card company stating that a Lowe's account had been opened in my name with my SS#. Luckily, it was flagged for investigation right away because the account was opened in FL and I live in PA. They're closing it and placing it under investigation. I just have to wait through the 60-90 day process for it to be officially declared fraudulent, then it's wiped from my credit reports completely.

But, I spent the majority of last night calling my banks, credit card companies, and filing a police report. They suggested I do that, in addition to informing the DMV, because if this person ever got pulled over and they used the ID that has my info on it, it could be a problem, especially if there's a warrant out for their arrest.

Good news is, I've done everything I can, including getting credit monitoring services and placing consumer fraud alerts on the big 3 credit bureau reports. The lady I spoke with today said you could do everything right and even the most vigilant person can get screwed. There's no real way to prevent ID theft from happening, you just have to do what you can afterwards to protect yourself.

And since they just opened a brand new account without my knowledge, rather than obtaining my current credit card numbers and charging the hell out of those, my credit shouldn't suffer at all, which is a great relief.

It's a total bummer that it happened. I honestly can say "I never thought it would happen to me", but at least it was a fairly minor thing, rather than the huge, credit-obliterating thing it might have been.

Logan is 3 months old today! YAY!!

P.S. He slept from 8:00pm-7:30am last night...a new Logan record!

Fun stuff!

Fun stuff!

Apparently, Logan's secret trick is to roll over while nobody's watching. He does it in his crib and only Jon has seen the results. He's gone in 4 times this week to get him up and the lil rascal is on his back! One morning, Jon found him there, looking at his mobile and chatting to himself...too cute! He will not perform on command, however, and the moment has yet to be captured on video, LOL!

I think he's going through a growth spurt right now (not fun stuff) because he is due for one around 3 months (which he will be on Tuesday - holy crap!) and yesterday he was ok in the morning, but the afternoon/evening was pretty intense. He was grumpy, hungry, and sleepy but wouldn't sleep, and when he cried (which was frequent) he was pretty much inconsolable. He finally passed out at 7pm, which is way too early for him to go down, so I had to wake him up for a bottle at 11pm for both his and Jon's sakes. Poor lil guy...hope it's over soon!

One fun moment we had yesterday was watching "Braveheart" on tv. I had him sitting up next to me on the couch and we were watching one of the battle scenes. He was being very vocal, chatting like crazy and his arms and legs were moving constantly! He seemed very into the movie (or at least the battle) and I kept saying "Get those bad old English guys", which made him giggle! Logan is a Scottish clan name, after all!

Random things

Random things

First of all, I gotta say...what an awesome baby Jon & I have! Logan is just so patient and good, we're so lucky (so far)! Mom and I had him out for a marathon shopping session on Sunday and he only fussed towards the end when he was getting hungry. Other than that, he seemed to really enjoy the mall with all its bright lights and things to look at, plus ladies to flirt with! Loverboy got too many compliments to count!

It also helps that we're getting what amounts to real sleep now. Logan is still on his bedtime at 8:30, up between 5:00 & 6:00 schedule, which is heaven, compared to the nearly every-hour-on-the-hour when he was a newborn, or even the 2 wake ups a night he was doing as recently as last month. He just smiles all the time and is giggling too! So cute! He's cooing and trying to make sounds. Sometimes, it's almost as if you're having an actual conversation with him, even though you're not quite sure what he's trying to say yet, but he seems to really want to say something!

Christmas shopping = done! It's nice to have everything bought, now I just have to start wrapping. The cards went out today, so I'm on the ball! Yay me! I'm going to pick up Logan's Bumbo seat tonight...he's holding his head up so well, we think he'll really enjoy being able to sit up like a big boy. And it turns out that the Baby Bjorn that Ralph & Mandy gave us is also a front carrier, which I did not realize, so we won't have to get him one, even though we decided to put it on the back burner anyway. So we'll have to try it out and see if he likes it!

Happy Thanksgiving/getting ready for Christmas

Hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving! Mom, Jon, Logan and I went to Jon's parent's house for the afternoon for some yummy turkey and all the trimmings. As a fun bonus, I was playing with my rings the night before and they fit again...YAY! I missed them so much!

Logan is still being a great napper and sleeping through the night, which is awesome! He is getting so strong...I put him down for some tummy time yesterday and he's holding his head, neck and most of his chest up off the floor! If you sit him up, his head is a tad wobbly at times still, but for the most part, he can hold it pretty steady and loves to sit up and look around.
We're thinking about getting him one of those carriers where the baby faces front. Either that, or a Bumbo seat. "What is a Bumbo seat?", you may ask ('cause I sure did!). It's almost like a booster seat, but it's made of flexible, molded material and has leg holes so the kid doesn't fall over. It helps them sit up while giving them support at the same time. Gives them a different perspective than seeing everything sideways from laying down, which probably gets boring after awhile.

And we're all decorated for Christmas! Jon and Bob brought the tree up for me on Friday, and after getting home from shopping on Saturday, Mom shaped it for me (I swear, she's a professional shaper!) and I finished decorating it after she left. It looks really good! Logan has his own stocking that I put his name on with glitter yesterday and hung up between ours...it's huge! It really puts the pressure on Jon and me to fill it when he gets older, LOL!!

Milestone!

I talked to Jon earlier today and he said that he had put Logan down for a nap in his crib this morning. He went in to get him when he started fussing and lo and behold...Logan had turned himself over onto his back! Jon said he went to pick him up and he had a big grin on his face like he was all proud of himself! LOL!!

P.S. And the sleep thing appears to be something of a trend...he slept from 9:30pm-5:00am! YAY!!

Sleep!

OK, now we know this had a lot to do with his shots, but Logan slept from 8:30pm Friday until 6am on Saturday! It was like heaven! Saturday night he slept from 8:30pm-4am, he got a bottle, then fell asleep for another 3 hours...kid might be getting the hang of this after all, although he woke up at 3am for a bottle last night, but then slept for almost 4 more hours afterwards. He's almost there...

P.S. He's been napping during the day a lot better too. The poor kid's not exhausted by the time bedtime rolls around, at least for the last few days. He had been fighting naps like crazy, but the pediatrician gave us some good tips to try.

2 month check-up

2 month check-up

Logan had his 2 month old check up today and it went pretty well! He's 12 lbs, 14 oz and 23 inches long, which puts him in the 75th-90th percentile in both, so he's right on track as far as his growth. He got his first shots today (poor baby ), and even though he cried for a bit, he settled down before Jon left the building with him. According to the doctor, "Babies don't get any better than him"...that's a quote!

NY Trip

The trip up to Binghamton to see Grandma and the Schubert gang went really well. I wasn't sure what to expect from a 2 month old on a 3 hour car trip, plus unfamiliar surroundings, but Logan knocked it outta the park! He slept almost the entire way up and we spent most of the day Saturday with everyone. He isn't shy around people he doesn't know yet, so Grandma got to hold him, AJ fed him, and Uncle Rick made funny faces at him!

He had his usual 2 wake-ups Saturday night in the hotel and went right back to sleep. Then he slept most of the way home. We had a little meltdown about 15 minutes from the house because he was hungry, but he settled down once he got a bottle. So far this kid is pretty adaptable!
I have some pics to post, hopefully I'll get to them tonight or tomorrow.

OH YEAH!!

Friday, November 14, 2008

OH YEAH!

Just a short note to say that Logan slept through the night last night! He went down at 10:30pm and didn't wake up until almost 5:00am!! I got up with him, gave him a bottle and laid him back down at 6:00am and he was still sleeping when I left the house at 7:45am. YAY!!!

Trip!

Logan's taking his first real trip this weekend. Mom and I are heading up to NY to see Grandma and the Schubert gang. They haven't seen him in person yet and since Grandma can't really travel, we're bringing the boy to her!

I won't have Jon with me (no time off left this year...booo), but Mom will be there to help out...hope she doesn't mind a 2:00AM feeding! ROFL!

He had a great night last night...slept for 4 hours, then again for almost 4 more. Keep it up, kiddo!

OMG!

OMG!

So last night Logan went down at around 10pm, pretty close to his usual bedtime. Sometime in the night I heard him crying, so I got up, changed him, grabbed a bottle and had a seat to feed him. It was around 2:30am. A few minutes later, Jon (who usually takes the first shift) came into the living room and said, "Thanks, babe...I didn't even hear him". Me: "Uh, what? Don't tell me this was his first wake-up". Jon: "Yep, sure was". OMG!!! Logan slept that long! I got him back to bed around 3am, and he was up again at 6. Maybe it's the start of something...maybe! *fingers crossed*

In other news, Jon and I are really proud to say we voted for Barack Obama. This country needs something special right now to get it back on track and be the America we know we can be. Here's hoping he lives up to the task...he sure seems capable. Go Obama!

Logan’s doctor appointment

Logan saw his pediatrician on Friday and it's all green! He weighed 10 lbs, 5 oz and was nearly 22 inches long! You can definitely see how big he's getting already. He better be...he just doesn't stop eating! According to the percentiles, he's right on the money for his age, which is 6 weeks tomorrow, believe it or not!

Things he's up to include: smiling real smiles, which are oh-so-cute, turning himself over (well, twice), lifting his head up, and army crawling on his tummy. He's also focusing very well on faces and starting to become interested in the world around him and his toys!

Birthdays!

Birthdays!

Here comes the October birthday train! Jon's is the 11th, mine is the 14th, Mary's is the 15th, and my cousin Richie's is the 29th!

Let's not forget my Dad whose birthday would've fallen on the 13th, if he were still with us (love you, Dad...wish you could've seen your new grandson...bet you never thought it would happen!)
And Logan will turn exactly 4 weeks old on my b-day!

Mommy goes back to work part-time!

Mommy goes back to work part-time!

Yeah, I guess it's time to get back to reality, at least partially. I worked for a few hours on Tuesday, and came back in today for a couple of hours. I think I'll do M/W/F (unless Jon has to work on Monday) for half days until my next 3 weeks are up. A little paycheck's better than no paycheck at all!

The nights are still kinda tough...Logan is sleeping, but getting him to get back to sleep after a wake up can take 1-2 hours, which can be exhausting. We know it's only temporary, but we're both looking and feeling like zombies, that's for sure!

His rash is clearing up pretty nicely so far. Hopefully it stays that way. I scheduled an appointment at Sears to have Halloween pictures taken on Oct. 22nd, so it gives him some time to get over it. Jon and I bought a little plastic cauldron and ghost hat to bring with us to the studio. We were thinking he could sit in the cauldron and look cute! We also bought Halloween-themed t-shirts so we could have a family pose too. Keep checking back...I'll post them once we have them taken!

Our first real night of sleep!

Our first real night of sleep!

We've been having some trouble getting Logan to sleep in his crib. We're pretty sure that right now, he's just so small and it's so big, that it overwhelms him and makes him feel insecure. We've also noticed that he sleeps like a champ in his car seat. (You see where this is going...)

Last night we ended up taking a 20 minute ride in the Jeep at midnight in the rain so he could finally fall asleep. When we got home, we left him in his car seat and he slept for three hour stretches at a time! Doesn't sound like much, but since Jon and I take turns getting up, it was way more sleep than we've gotten since Logan's been home!

In other news, the poor lil guy has a nasty case of prickly heat on his forehead and chest. The doctor says it's normal and will go away on its own, but it just looks uncomfortable. We're trying to keep him as cool as possible.

Family bigger by one!

So I guess I should tell the story of how Logan came a little earlier than expected! On Monday morning (9/15), I mentioned to Jon that the Braxton-Hicks contractions I'd been getting seemed more frequent since I got up and instead of being uncomfortable like usual, they were a little painful. He was getting ready for work (of course he had to work a 1st shift that day!) and was a bit worried, but since I'm right above my OB/GYN, we both figured if I wasn't feeling well, I could go see them.

Not long before I left the house, I felt a little (TMI incoming) discharge, wondered if that could possibly have been my water breaking, took care of it, then went on my way. I figured even if this was it, I had to get payroll done for the office at the very least. After I got there, I told the girls that I may be in labor, but not to worry, I was going downstairs as soon as possible to be checked out. Christina panicked a bit (we all knew she would ), but just a tiny bit.
By the time I got there, I was sure my water had broken. I explained my situation to the receptionist and I was able to see a doctor within minutes. She confirmed that my water had, ideed, broken, and that I was 1 cm dilated and 50% effaced. She was sending me to L&D at Harrisburg. The office even called ahead for us so they knew we were coming. I went back upstairs, got what I could squared away, and called Jon (who was very calm and collected, by the way).

Since I had a feeling when I left that morning that labor may have started, I had already thrown my hospital bag in the car with me, so we were able to grab it and go. When we got there around 10 am, we were shown to the labor room (a river view after all!) and I got ready to have a baby. The contractions were becoming more frequent and more painful, so they put me on the list to get an epidural. I used the jacuzzi tub in order to help with the contractions, which did help quite a bit. Eventually, I got my epidural and was able to say, "Contractions? What contractions?" That thing was unbelievably amazing!

By 2 pm or so, it was evident I wasn't progressing very well, so they busted out the IV and pitocin. Pitocin is a drug used to induce labor. Theoretically speaking, that is. To make a long story short, I was on increasing amounts of it the entire day. At one point I got to about 6cm dilated and 80% effaced and we were both very encouraged, as were the staff.

The afternoon wore on into the evening and the evening became night. The contractions were still very managable with the epidural, but the progress we hoped for just wasn't happening. We watched the entire Monday night football game (was a good one too...Cowboys vs. Eagles), then Aliens 3 (haha!). Around 1 am or so, the epidural became not so effective. The contractions were even more frequent, usually spiking off the monitor's range. When the doctor came to check me, I had made it to 8 cm and 90% effacement. Unfortunately, I spent the next 5 hours there. There I was, in indescribable pain because the epidural wasn't working anymore (even with a stronger bollus injected into it) and unable to push because I would literally tear myself open. And boy, did I want to push, the feeling was overwhelming. Try that for a few hours.
At around 6 am, Dr. Perotti told me it was time to start talking c-section, and I was more than ready to have a chat about it. I had mentioned to the nurse already that I was open to the suggestion at this point and that if it meant getting him out of there, I was all for it. The horrible news...there was someone in front of me and it would take at least an hour and a half to get me to surgery. We were both devastated. Me, because I was in so much pain and nothing was working, and Jon because he just felt horrible for me and wanted it to be over (although he was extremely proud of me...I didn't scream, or even cry once. Hell, I didn't even swear! Yeah, that's right...no swearing!). Dr. Perotti was disappointed also, but there wasn't much he could do.

About 15 minutes later, he came back into the room, told us he pulled a few strings and spoke with the other woman's doctor. Since she was stable and I was not, they let us go in first. I can still remember the relief that flooded through me at the news and I was so greatful to him for doing that for us. As soon as he mentioned "c-section", I was swarmed by people. The leaped into action fast. Jon was directed to the room where he could get ready and I was hooked up to some severely heavy painkillers, which at this point, was heaven.

I was wheeled into the OR at around 6:40 am and at 6:59 am on 9/16/08, Logan had finally arrived. After my water broke around 7 am Monday morning until this point, it was a long 24 hours. Jon even watched him being born, which I was amazed at. I think they tricked him a bit to look over the curtain! He wasn't able to cut the cord, because he couldn't go into the sterile area, but they gave Logan to him right away to hold him before the nurses went to work.
I was shocked to hear that he was only 7 lbs, 6 oz! Our "giant" baby turned out to be a bit on the wee side after all! But perfect in every way. The nurses were nice enough to take some pictures for us right in the OR. While they stapled me shut and cleaned me up, they moved Jon and Logan to the initial recovery room where he got to spend mucho quality time with his boy. I was wheeled in later. We spent about 1/2 an hour there before being taken to the permanent recovery room.

My mom, and Jon's parents and sister visited us later in the day. I felt pretty good for having major surgery. I wasn't allowed to walk at all that first day. Wednesday morning I woke up to my entire right arm, from hand to shoulder swollen to about 5 times its size! My IV had infiltrated when either it failed, or one of my veins ruptured a valve. Nobody's sure what happened, but none of them had really seen anything like it before (lucky me!). I was bruised and blisters had formed all over the arm from where the fluid tried to escape. But, little by little, the swelling went down to where I could finally move my fingers, and by my discharge on Friday, was almost back to normal, expect for looking hideous. Which it still does, but it's improving!

The doctors and nurses at Harrisburg took really great care of us, and I'm glad we had the baby there. I'm still super-greatful to Dr. Perotti and all the staff.
So now it's Sunday and we've been home a few days. We're not getting much sleep, but loving every minute of it so far. Jon has been amazing (as usual), and not letting me do much of anything. We've already had Logan's first bath at home and our first outing, which he slept the entire way through. He has his very own doctor's appointment tomorrow afternoon, then I have one on Tuesday to get my staples removed.

We'll keep taking plenty of pictures, so keep your eyes open for them!

Doctor’s appt.

I had my weekly non-stress test yesterday, which went well, as usual. The nurse-midwife came in, looked at my chart, told me my blood pressure was great, blood sugars were great and the baby was even better! I haven't gained any weight in 3 weeks (yay!) so I seem to be holding steady there too. She felt around and Logan's still head down (good boy!), but we found his heartbeat on the left side of my abdomen, rather than the right, which is where it's been for a long time. Lil guy must've got himself turned around somehow!

I asked her when she thought we would talk about what (if anything) would be done about the concerns they have for his possible larger size. She told me that the most likely senario was that I'd be offered an induction sometime the week of September 21st, but that it would be discussed in more detail at my next 2 appointments. Good points to an induction: it takes away the uncertainty of the where and when I'd go into labor and he won't be weighing in at 10 lbs. (hopefully). Bad points: inductions can sometimes lead to longer labors and c-sections.
We'll keep you posted when we get closer (which is happening very fast!)!!

Busy week!

Busy week!

Whew! We just had a pretty busy week around here. Monday was our last baby care class, Tuesday was our tour of the hospital (tonight's our last childbirth class!), Wednesday we organized Logan's room and went through all the stuff he got, Thursday was our concert (Cheap Trick was meh, Heart was excellent (the Wilson sisters still gots it!), and Journey was really good too...the new lead singer sounds quite a bit like Steve Perry), and yesterday we went to the Ren Faire!

This weekend Mom and I (well, mostly Mom) organized her living room. She ended up getting her bedroom mostly done as well. So she's really settling in. We needed something to do on our day off yesterday, so I just happened to find out that the Ren Faire was doing a 2-for-1 special on Labor Day only, so it was a pretty good deal. The three of us walked around, saw a couple of shows (go Tartan Terrors!), and had some yummy chocolate! We might get fancy and dress up next year, but go later in the season. It's way too hot in September to get into some of those costumes, yet lots of people do. We're thinking of making Logan a dragon!

Tour (and stuff)!

Tour (and stuff)!

We took our tour of the L&D floor at Harrisburg on Tuesday and we were glad we did! The floor is very secure...Jon will get a white wristband that gives him unlimited access to it (and free parking!). Visitors get a different color, but everyone on that floor is accounted for. The baby will get 2 bands, one on his ankle and one on his wrist, that match mine and Jon's.

The LDR (labor, delivery & recovery) rooms are really, really nice. They're private (yay!), way bigger than we expected, and very homey looking, with pretty wallpaper, a nice headboard, and a huge bathtub with jacuzzi jets! Depending on which room you get, you may also have a river view, which was very nice as well. Everything is right there that the staff will need...behind a small door is where they keep all the stuff they'll use on Logan when he's born so they don't have to keep running in and out for things. Our instructor told us that you know you're getting close when the nurses start opening the packages in that little room! There's also a large chair that converts into some sort of sleeping device in case Jon wants to spend the night with us.

We'll spend the first hour or two after delivery there, then be moved to a more permanent recovery room. They are a bit smaller, but still very nice and private too. There's plenty of room for Logan to sleep in there if we want (which is recommended). All in all, the hospital and floor were a nice surprise!

Last night, we began going through all the stuff this kid got from the baby showers. Jon put the stroller together and made sure we understood how the car seat fit into it securely, plus how the bases for the cars work. We also organized the changing table so all those supplies are handy, washed the blankets, and made space in the kitchen for what we considered "kitchen stuff". He got a lot of clothes, but I still have to go through them and wash at least some of the newborn stuff. I think I might hold off on all of it though, because I hear those are outgrown very quickly. We had fun, though...made it seem very real that Logan will be here in about a month!
And tonight's the Journey/Heart/Cheap Trick concert at Hershey Park Stadium! It should be a really great show, except that for the first time in weeks, it rained this morning. According to all I've heard so far, it's not supposed to last, but still...c'mon! I had a dream last night that I went into labor during the song "Don't Stop Believin'"...let's all hope that doesn't happen

NY Baby Shower!

NY Baby Shower!

Whew! Well, both showers are over and all I can say is...this kid is rolling in loot! Mom and I went up Saturday. Unfortunately, we were later getting there than we had hoped due to major delays from construction on I-81. We were just late enough to not put the balloons up in front of Jamie's house in time for Aunt Joni, who spent 45 minutes driving past it 3 times! But she made it (yay!) and wasn't late at all. My Aunts Pat and Debbie were there as well as 2 of my cousins, and Joanne brought her 14 year old daughter, who is so grown-up looking! It's hard to believe Jo is 40 this year, but she looks awesome!

My friends from high school, Tracie and Sabrina were there and it was really great to see those guys again. We ended up talking about how old we were getting and that our 20th reunion is next year! Wow...that is a mind-blower! They're planning the reunion, so we even have a date set and everything. It's supposed to be next July. I can't wait to show Jon more of Harpursville...talk about culture shock for him!

As a total surprise guest, Jamie invited Julie Dietrich, who was my high school volleyball coach! It was amazing to see her again, as a matter of fact, it took me a double-take to recognize her, mostly because her hair was totally different and I wasn't expecting to see her. It has been 20 years, after all! But she's still the same bubbly, fun person she was back then.

Mom and Jamie did a great job with the shower and it turned out so well. Thanks, you two! Logan has so many nice, new things and we're all super lucky to have friends and family that care about us so much. I want to give a special shout-out to Jamie's daughter, Megan, who not only helped her dad set the party up, but played waitress and present fetcher too!

Yesterday, Mom and I picked up her rental truck and met AJ, Uncle Rick, Richie and Pete at the storage unit to load it up. Well, they did most of the work. I mostly just carried a few small boxes and drawers. It was pretty hot, but I guess not as hot as it could have been, so we were lucky. It didn't take very long with everyone working. Jon and Bob are going to help her unload it this afternoon. Hopefully, it goes as smooth for them! It took us about 4 hours to get home last night because of a) TONS of traffic on I-81 and b) more damn construction on the south side. It took us 45 minutes to an hour to get through a 12 mile stretch of 1 lane traffic. Ugh! But, we made it finally.

It's a busy week this week! We have our baby care class tonight, our childbirth class tomorrow night, where we'll be taking the tour of the L&D floor at Harrisburg Hospital, and then our Journey/Heart/Cheap Trick concert Thursday night. That should be a lot of fun, but I'm definitely bringing a cushion to sit on!

P.S. I'll have some pics as soon as Jamie e-mails them to me...dummy me...I totally forgot the camera

Doctor’s appt

I saw the doctor yesterday after doing my blood sugars since Friday and having the U/S last Thursday. I had to do a non-stress test, which is where the strap a fetal heart monitor and a contraction monitor over my belly. When I felt Logan move, I pressed a Jeopardy-like buzzer. The point of the test was to see if his heartbeat increased after movement, sort of like a grown-up's will after exercise. He moved tons, so they were able to get lots of good data and he passed that with flying colors, although it turns out it's not a one-time thing...I have to do it every week! Sheesh! Weirdly enough, the data did show I was having contractions, but I haven't been feeling any of them, so she said that was normal.

My blood sugar numbers have been kicking ass...they're not even close to being diabetic-like. Oh, well...I'll keep doing 'em. She went over the U/S with me and yes, he is measuring about 2 weeks ahead of schedule. She felt around and didn't think he was overly huge, but they are going to keep an eye on his growth and not let him get too big. Which is a relief, really. I'm nervous enough about labor and delivery without having to worry about having a 10 lb kid!

PA Baby Shower!

PA Baby Shower!

I had my first baby shower yesterday and boy, was it fun! Aunt Steph and Grandma Sprunk really did an awesome job (thanks, guys!). I couldn't believe the pile of presents that were there! Some people couldn't come, but they sent Logan some beautiful things. We got everything from his bedding set to high chair to car seat to homemade sweaters and blankets, not to mention tons of books to being his library with. It was just amazing, and Jon and I are so thankful to have such great friends and family, who seem determined to spoil this kid rotten!
P.S. The glucose testing thing, while a pain, is going fine. I haven't blown a limit yet (not by a long shot), and that's with all the great food I've eaten this weekend!

*sigh*

Friday, August 15, 2008

*sigh*

So, I guess I didn't dodge the bullet after all. As you may recall, with this practice, I see a different doctor at each appointment. Because it's so big, you just never know who will end up delivering the baby, so they try and have you meet them all beforehand. I met a new doc on Wednesday and she's very nice, but she decided that she was going to diagnose me with gestational diabetes after all. She said she had another look at those test results, and even though I didn't fail by much, I still failed and she wanted to go ahead and treat me for GD.

Sooo, we had an ultrasound Thursday night so Logan (who is still Logan by the way...there's no mistaking the goods now!) could be measured and an approximate weight and age could be gathered from that data. Even with all of this modern technology, it's still not a precise science. According to his measurements, he's about 6.5 lbs (+/- 1 lb), and around 37 weeks old (+/- 17 days...LOL). So theoretically, if he went to term (9/28) at the rate he's going, he could potentially be a 10 lb baby. But, I'm not sure how they'll interpret the new due date (9/12), since the +/- is so huge. I guess I'll find that out on Wednesday at my next appointment, where I have to have a non-stress test. That's where they put an external fetal heart monitor around my stomach and gauge the baby's heartrate while he's moving around in there.

Meanwhile, I had to go to get nutritional and diabetic counseling today. The good news is, I don't think I'll have to change my diet much at all, but I mostly have to spread my carbs around throughout the day, rather than eating them all at once in 3 meals. So I get 3 meals and 3 snacks and have to test my blood glucose levels 4 times a day. It's not so bad...the lancet is much smaller than the ones I've seen before and didn't really hurt at all. Still a pain in the ass? Yep. but if it helps the boy out, we're all for it!

Baby showers/Mom news!

Baby showers/Mom news!

Whoo hoo! I'm so excited about my PA baby shower this Saturday! My best girl Steph and MIL Mary are putting it together for me. It should be lots of fun! Then on 8/23, my Mom's throwing another one for me up home for family in NY. I am gonna get my party on in the next couple of weeks!!

The childbirth class is going well so far, even though it still freaks me out a bit. We're learning a lot about breathing and relaxation techniques, which should hopefully be helpful when the time comes. Jon has been showing me some ninja (yep, real, live ninja) concentration/breathing techniques as well! As much as I think I'm ready for Logan to be here, I continue to be a little overwhelmed by the whole birthing process. Here's hoping it all goes smoothly...

So in Mom news, she's moving to the Hershey area on August 18th! Big congrats to her on what sounds like an awesome job that she will kick ass at. Besides the traveling she'll get to do (Asia!), she gets to run an association for CPA's the way she wants (much like she did at the Bar Association in Broome Co.). She got herself a cute little apartment in Palmyra, so she's only minutes from work and, depending on the traffic, about 15-20 minutes from us. So the cool news is, Logan will get to see both sets of grandparents pretty much anytime he/they want! The kid's gonna get spoiled rotten, I'm almost sure of it.

Prepared childbirth class...

Prepared childbirth class...

Jon and I went to our first "Prepared Childbirth Class" last night. It was pretty interesting and we both think we'll learn alot. It runs for 2 hours every Tuesday for the next 5 weeks, and it includes a tour of Harrisburg Hospital's L&D floor so you can see where you'll be sweating and in pain for hours on end!
Of course, the more I learn about the process, the more nervous and scared I'm getting. The pictures in the workbook are starting to freak me out. Yeah, yeah...I know how babies are born, I knew what I was getting into. But sheesh, the closer it comes, the more I want a C-section!

Fun, but tiring!

We just got back from Ohio today. It was a lot of fun, but we're pretty beat. We got to Aunt Diane and Uncle Ray's late Friday afternoon. They fed us home-made pizza and we played cards, where A.D. spanked us at "Oh, Hell". Oh, well...I've never won that game in my life! On Saturday, we had a cookout and their kids came over. We hadn't been there in about 5 years, so their grandkids looked a lot different, especially! Everyone is so nice and loads of fun! That afternoon, Jon and Bob got to ride Twister, A.D.'s horse. I had to sit that one out, but when I saw Jon's legs (after using loads of bug spray), I was almost glad I had to! Poor guy. They're better already, though. P.S. : Aunt Diane's home-made cinnamon bread and cream-filled chocolate cupakes are killer! If I gained too much weight this week, it's totally her fault!

On Sunday, we took a ride into Fremont to attend Grandma Sprunk's 90th birthday party. She looks great and she definitely had a good time. Each of her kids (Aunt Sandy, Uncle Tom, and Dad) got up to say a few words and reminisce about growing up with Grandma. There were pictures all over the place, from every different generation. Then we took some more!
After the party, we visited Aunt Amy (who is super nice and was very happy to see the boys), then went back to Grandma's house for a bit. After dinner at The Golden Dragon (a Chinese restaurant they used to eat at when they were kids), we went to our hotel room to use the pool. You will see I got extremely brave and for this week's progression pics...it's me in a bikini! Please try and refrain from laughing too hard. Thanks.

And here it is, Monday. We're home and unpacked, but I'm not quite ready to go back to work. Oh well...I'll have some more news after our very first childbirth class tomorrow night! It should be interesting!

Yay! (Lotsa news)

Yay! (Lotsa news)

I passed the 3 hour glucose test! I was pretty worried because I cheated and was able to pull my results from the hospital database yesterday (we have access through work) and to me, it looked like I failed (according to how the results are supposed to be read, anyway), although not by much. I got pretty worked up about it (who me?) because I kept thinking about how much I might have to change my eating habits, not to mention doing finger pricks multiple times daily to check blood sugars. I managed to get Jon upset too, because no matter what he said to try and make me feel better, I wasn't hearing any of it.

Apparently, they called the house this morning to tell him that the results were fine and not to worry about it. He didn't actually say "I told you so" (boy, I love that guy!), but if he had, I wouldn't have blamed him!

So, to make a long story short, things are still going swimmingly here in the 'Burg. Except for the heat, which has made my hands and feet swell, plus that sleeping is getting to be a serious problem. Other than that, I can't complain too much. Well, except that I feel like I weigh about 300 lbs and get short of breath alot. Gee, I guess I can complain!

We're heading to Ohio this weekend to see Jon's Grandma (who is turning a very healthy 90) and some of his other relatives on his Dad's side for a party/reunion-type thingie, and his aunt on his Mom's side, who has a nice little farm in the same town. We always have a good time when we head out that way, so we're really looking forward to it! 'Course, there may be a bunch of pee stops along the way for you-know-who!

I'm also really excited about our showers next month...one's on 8/16 here in PA, the other's on 8/23 in NY. I am trying to be good and not peek at the registry, I swear!

We start childbirth classes at the end of this month as well...it's a 6 week course that (I hope) will give us a good idea of what to expect when it comes time to actually have this kid (this is the part that makes me real nervous, LOL!). It also includes a tour of the L&D floor at Harrisburg Hospital, which I hear is pretty nice. I also signed us up for a 2 week course at the end of August that deals with the care of a newborn. Yeah, I'm sure lots of people figure it out on their own, but never having spent much time around babies, it'll make me feel better!
Guess that's all for now! As always, I'll keep you guys updated as much as possible.

Booooo

Yeah, so I failed the stupid 1 hour glucose test by 8 lousy points. I'm pretty pissed off about it, but what'cha gonna do? I have to be at the hospital by 6:45 next Friday morning (because the office doesn't do the 3 hour test there, of course...it's downstairs from work and convenient), get my blood drawn, then once an hour for the next 3 hours. Did I mention I can't have anything to eat after midnight on Thursday? Oh boy, I'm already picturing the fun in my head.

I'm doing it though, even though it's sort of under protest. I think failing it by 8 points is fairly indicative of being negative for gestational diabetes, but it's for Logan, so I'm sucking it up and trying not to think about it too much. Wish me luck!

3rd Trimester, whoohoo!

Wow, I can hardly believe it's actually here! There's still a long way to go, and probably many more uncomfortable moments, but it's pretty cool to think that I've made it this far already! Jon has been awesome, as usual. He always helps me off the couch, off the floor, out of the car, etc. He even rubs my tummy with lotion every night so I don't get stretch marks! (So far, so good...knock wood.)

Logan is extremely active in there, at least for now while he has the room. He kicks/punches/pokes/rolls over constantly! It's good though. We're glad he seems to be moving and healthy! It's fun to watch my stomach move with the motions.

My 1 hour glucose test is tomorrow. I have to fast 2 hours prior, chug an orange-flavored dextrose drink, which I hear is horrible, then get my blood drawn. Keep your fingers crossed I pass, because if not (even if I miss by a few points) I'd have to take the 3 hour one, which I really don't want to do. *sigh* And if they try to take my sweets away, there will be trouble!

New pics/nursery news!

I put a few more progress pics up for your viewing pleasure/amusement! I mean, I've put some weight on, but it mostly seems concentrated right on the belly area...sheesh, I'm huge already! I need help getting off the couch, for cryin' out loud! Three more months and Jon will have to buy a home crane kit or something...

In nursery news, we put up the border in Logan's room last night and it looks so cute! It was our first time with any sort of wallpaper, but it wasn't too bad. Jon did a great job (he was the hanger, I was the paster)! We also put the changing table together and arranged that, the crib, and the dresser. We're still missing some odds and ends to pull it all together, but at least the 'lil guy's room is basically finished. Pics of that will go up tonight!

Baby’s room

Well, we've started getting ready for Logan's arrival! Jon has really worked his butt off in the last month or so, re-organizing things and cleaning. He's been awesome (as usual)!

Last Thursday we began painting. The ceiling and walls are a sage green and the trim
is going to be a cream color, which should really go nicely with the "Zanzibar" bedding and accessories we picked out. We ordered the baby's furniture and since they had the crib in stock, we were able to take that home with us. We should be picking up the dresser and changing table next week, so the room is really coming together.

Once it's all painted (and the border's up...I'm still working on getting a definite "yes" on that!) and the furniture's assembled and moved in, we'll take a few pics for the front page!

Registry complete (for now)!

Registry complete (for now)!

Whew! Jon and I went to Babies 'R Us last night to register, now that we know we're having a boy. And boy, was that fun (and tiring)!! We were probably there 2 1/2 hours or so...my feet still hurt! Even though we had some ideas from our trip a couple of months ago, it was still staggering how much stuff is in that store. Walking around with that scanner was a trip...we didn't do it when we got married, so it was pretty cool. And no disagreements...we're really happy with the things we picked out! It looks like a jungle theme for the nursery...so cute!

IT'S A BOY!!

IT’S A BOY!!!

It's a healthy baby boy and we couldn't be more thrilled! He's measuring right on schedule, at a hefty 1 lb. 1 oz. (LOL) and the due date is (at the moment) fairly accurate, but nobody can guarantee those. According to the ultrasound yesterday, he looks good: brain, heart, blood flow, and internal organs seem to be fine with no problems. He did a lot of waving and keeping one hand near his face, like he was shy, but the tech was able to get a look at the goods! His name (we're fairly certain) will be Logan Alexander. Can't wait to meet the lil guy!

Movement!

Movement!

OK, the baby's been moving around for sure lately! He/she started on Thursday night and both of us have felt it several times over the past couple of days. Kind of a weird feeling at first, but a) I'm getting used to it now and b) it's good to know baby's starting that stuff up...not that I was getting worried or anything...
Big news tomorrow! Boy or girl? Hopefully the bean will cooperate with the ultrasound tech to give us some nice shots and let us know! We'll keep everyone posted!

Mother’s Day

I sure wasn't expecting anything for Mother's Day this year, but I got a couple of nice surprises! Jon got me a really cool Tinkerbell seat cover for my car. He said he'd get me the other one if I liked it, which I do, so he better get buying. I told him I thought that whatever it was would be for the baby and he said "Mother's Day gifts are for the mom!" I went to his parent's house yesterday for a bar-b-que and got a gift certificate for a spa treatment (oooh!). So did his mom, so we are going to try and hit it up together! From his brother and sister, we got a cute, soft baby book.

Speaking of books, we went to Borders on Saturday and they were having a sale on baby books, so we bought 4 or 5 really cute, simple ones and only spent a few dollars. Can't start the library too early!

While we were there, I got "What to Expect During the First Year", which is the companion of the more famous "What to Expect When You're Expecting", which I already have. All I have to say is..eeps. Just the chapters on breastfeeding make me want to run for the hills! Hehe, just kiddin' (mostly)!!

New doc

New doc

We saw the new group on Wednesday and they seem really nice. It's fairly big, so they try and schedule you with as many different practitioners as they can so you can meet at least most of them before the baby's born. Everything's going well, baby's heartbeat and growth are on track, as is my weight and BP. We had our fingers crossed that they might sneak in an ultrasound, but since we already had an appointment with the specialists on 5/19 for one, they told us to stick with it. I guess we've waited 2 months...another week and a half shouldn't be a big deal...LOL!

Maybe movement?

Maybe movement?

We were laying in bed on Thursday night and I just happened to have my hand near my belly button, and I felt something that I could only describe as "butterflies in my stomach". Just a tiny flutter, but it was definitely something. I quickly had Jon put his hand there, but I guess the baby was finished for the night. It's getting to be around that time when we could possibly feel something going on in there, so we're assuming it was the little bean, but we're sure he/she will be more definitive/persistent in its movements in the very near future!

Ack!

Ack!

I'm wearing maternity jeans today! I tried squeezing into a pair of regular ones and even without the belt, they were pretty tight. Wow, never thought I'd see the day!

Changed docs

Well, I did it. I went downstairs and made an appointment with the new group and requested my records from the old doc. I feel bad switching at almost half-way through, but what can I do? I'm not going back to that clinic, so there ya go. Next appointment: May 6th!

Dr's Appt.

Thursday, April 17, 2008

Dr’s Appt.

So, the doctor's appointment itself went really well, but I think I'm going to have to find myself a new doc. Let me explain...I like mine, alot. He's really nice and I've been seeing him for the routine stuff for the last 6 years or so, so he knows me. He's getting up there, though, and has been a solo practice all these years. Looking towards his future, he decided to join a group so there would be more coverage for him. Understandable.

What's not understandable is that he went from a nice suite of offices down the road from where I work to a free clinic, located in a not-so-nice part of town. Jon has pretty much forbidden me to go there by myself (remember where he works - he knows these things), and strongly suggested I find another doc, even though we both like him. After seeing the place, I tend to agree, although it sucks. There's a practice downstairs from me that comes highly recommended. I might see if they're taking new patients today.

Otherwise, nice and normal visit. The baby's right on target as far as growth and heartbeat, and my weight and BP were totally fine. Now it's just the monthlong wait for the big ultrasound. *sigh*

Babies 'R US

Babies 'R US

Jon and I took a trip to Babies 'R US last night, just to look around and see what we'll need and how much all this stuff will cost! It was actually a lot of fun...we "picked out" a carseat, stroller, pack-n-play, high chair, and even furniture for the nursery! We didn't register or anything yet (so hold your horses, everyone!), just waiting to see if we've got a boy or a girl first. We finished the evening off with a trip to DQ...mmmm, ice cream!

Trying to make the switch...

I am thinking of shutting down the MySpace page. It's a pain to try and update both it and Facebook with the pics and such, so I thought I'd start my very own blog and plop it on FB. I'm going to copy-paste all the entries from there onto here, if it works. Here goes...
